Yoga at Spa Zuiver

Not the regular yoga studio when thinking of where to go for my practice in Amsterdam. Spa Zuiver is a wellness, spa, sauna, tennis and fitness complex in one of Amsterdams most beautiful nature resorts, the Amsterdamse Bos. Although it’s great location and seemingly endless offer it would not be the first choice when thinking of my yoga practice. Through my One Fit membership and my love for sauna rituals I gave their vinyasa class a try and developed a beautiful Saturday morning practice with one of my dearest friends.

Start the day early, with a smooth vinyasa flow and unwind for an additional hour (included in the offer) in the spa and enjoy one of the pouring rituals by the skilled sauna masters. And the best, if you choose to have a smoothy or breakfast at the restaurant you buy yourself another hour at the spa with your food or drink above 7,50€. Cheching.
But back to the yoga.

At first it seems a bit fitness. An LED lid room that looks like a tent from inside, heaters on the walls for hot yoga sessions…not quite the artisional and modernly unmodern look that yoga studios these days have. But I don’t want to be preoccupied by the looks and keep my mind open. And you know, the classes are great. The teachers know what they are talking about, alternate linguistically smooth between the dominantly dutch speaking visitors and few international guests and bridge well between tradition and modern style.

Yin yoga and traditional Hatha classes can be practiced in a hot or normal temperature. They offer stronger flow classes and a spicy vinyasa flow class as well as pilates.

I really enjoyed the vinyasa classes that was good for beginners but also gave me as a bit more advanced practitioner room to play and challenge myself. Also the fitness and workout facilities are at the top of their game, so if you he any issues you want to work on or muscles you want to give extra attention to…they’ll sort you out.

And the best…once your done, you take a dip in the pool and relax in one of the luxurious saunas or steam baths. Surrounded by great nature that screams for a walk in the woods before or after your visit.

Pretty amazing way to start your Saturday if you ask me.

So bottom line…maybe not the most hip spot to do yoga amongst hip yogis. No, you won’t find an earthy design atmosphere of a cozy yoga shala with trendy yogis reading Happinez magazine and a Buddha in the corner. But you’ll do real yoga, find silence and an overall beautiful experience thats one of its kind.

Yoga, music, love and good food. More love than reason, more "lets see what happens" than the perfect annual plan. Listening to that space you can call guts feeling, heart space or whatever you want to call it, and combining it with a healthy portion of balls to challenge established views and cut through the bullshit. I have a background in nightlife, where I ran an event agency and a nightclub. Later a quick and intense stroll into advertising brought me to fall in love with Amsterdam. I love good wine, can eat till I drop and love having people and good music around me. That's me. Or at least how I would summarize what's on my mind mostly :)
